Myers was claimed off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on August 6. He got into the game that night, but did not actually face a batter, as an inherted baserunner was caught stealing to end the inning. Eleven times Mike was called on to face only one batter, and he retired the batter on nine of those occasions. There were six games in which he pitched an inning or more, including August 11, when he went a season-high two innings, allowing no walks and only one hit. On September 15, Myers entered the game with one out in the sixth inning. Two runs had just scored and the game was tied, but he struck out the first two batters he faced to get out of the inning. When the Red Sox rallied in the bottom of the inning, he picked up the win. Myers struck out the only batter he faced in Game 1 of the Division Series, combining with Mike Timlin and Keith Foulke to strike out the side in the eighth. In the ALCS, Mike pitched two innings in Game 3. He walked the only batter he faced in Game 4. Myers entered Game 5 of the ALCS at the start of the eleventh inning, and struck out Hideki Matsui, the only batter he faced.
