Youkilis was called up May 15 when Bill Mueller went on the D.L. and made his debut in Toronto that afternoon. He made a good first impression, going 2-for-4 and hitting a home run in the fourth inning for his first major league hit. He reached base in each of his first ten games, and had two doubles and three RBI on May 28 in Seattle. He went on to be named A.L. Rookie of the Month for May, with a .318 average, one home run, seven RBI, fifteen runs scored, a .446 on-base percentage, and a .477 slugging percentage in the month. Kevin had a career-high three hits in Colorado on June 16, including a homer, two walks, and two runs scored. On June 25, he had a career-high four RBI against the Phillies. He had his first two-homer game in Detroit on August 8, matching his highs with three hits, three runs, and four RBI. Kevin was named to the Division Series roster, and played in Game 2 against the Angels, where he got two at-bats. Youkilis wasn't on the ALCS roster, because the team decided to carry an extra pitcher during that round. But he was back on the roster for the World Series, although he didn't get into any games.
