When Trot Nixon opened the season on the disabled list, Kapler got a lot of playing time in right field. In the Patriot's Day matinee against the Yankees, he singled in the first Red Sox run in the second inning, then knocked in what proved to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth as the team came back from a 4-1 deficit to beat New York 5-4. Gabe hit two homers in three days in Anaheim in July, as the Sox split a four-game series with the Angels. He hit a single, a double, and a homer and had three RBI in Oakland on September 7, leading the Sox to a 7-1 win. Kapler started in right field against the left-handed Jarrod Washburn in Game 1 of the Division Series. He went 1-for-5 with a run scored. In Game 2 he pinch-ran for Nixon in the ninth, and scored a run. Gabe got into two of the ALCS games against the Yankees. In Game 5, he pinch-ran for Trot in the eighth, then got two at-bats as the game went into the fourteenth. In Game 6, he singled in a pinch-hitting appearance. Kapler played in all four games in the Red Sox' World Series sweep. He pinch-hit in Game 1 and Game 3, and served as a late-inning defensive replacement in Games 2 and 4.
